For D’Angelo Moore, the Bremerton Wildcats have been keeping him in shape, in rhythm, and in the game.

Moore had a game high 40 points in the Wildcats 89-65 win over SprayDay in the Bremerton Parks and Rec Adult Men's League. Bremerton is undefeated at 5-0, and Moore is one of the reasons why,

“He’s actually been key,” said Wildcats coach Jim Portune. “We only really have two double-digit scorers, that’s in Deonte (Dixon) and D’Angelo.

Moore sank nine 3-pointers in the game for the Wildcats, showing he still has the ability to dominate a game like he did his senior year for the Bremerton High.

“This team is really about players like D’Angelo,” Portune pointed out. “It’s to get them to the next level. He was disappointed that The Evergreen State College didn’t accept him. He’s still playing with college level players, he still staying in rhythm and in synch.”

Moore was part of the Knights’ 2021-22 season, that finished 12-9 and fell one game short of the Class 2A state tournament. He has the school single game scoring record of 48 points which he set against Chimacum during the Covid affected season of 2021, and was named first team all-Olympic League twice.

He had a scholarship to play basketball at Evergreen in Olympia, but the school didn’t accept him academically because of his grades, putting him in limbo.

“It’s on me,” Moore said. “My grades weren’t the best and it came back to bite me in my senior year. One door closed and another one opened.”

That opened door led to his addition to the Wildcats has helped him keep in his game in rhythm.

“It’s not easy for him in a sense,” said Portune. “In middle school and high school, he was the man calling the shots. Come on to this team, and Deonte is calling the shots. This is something he has to adjust to in college. I think this experience has been good for him. It’s been a struggle for him, but him and Deonte have become a combo that’s almost irreplaceable.”

Adding to his load is parenthood, as Moore became a father over the last year. But he has found the balance between parenting and playing basketball.

“It’s helped me to stay in rhythm and stay on my game until I get back to college,” Moore said. “It helped me a lot to stay in shape and keep finding my rhythm to play at the next level.”
